Employer Timeline

Here is an overview of what to expect during the recruitment cycle, offer period, and internship, as well as what is required from every employer.
Register

  • Follow these steps and register for free on our Career Portal.
  • 1 of our Program Coordinators will be assigned to your company and they will help you navigate through the Career Portal.

Post Jobs

September 25 2017 – June 30 2018

  • After registration is approved, you can post jobs directly on the Career Portal. If you’re experiencing trouble, your Program Coordinator will help you.
  • You do not have to hire if you post a position and we do not vet the applications for you. It will be up to the students to determine their fit in a company.

Host Employer Info Sessions

  • Promote your organization to targeted students. You can determine the format, details presented, and the event speakers.
  • We can advise which dates/times students prefer during the academic year, help you book space on-campus and leverage different departments to promote your event to targeted students.

Conduct Interviews

October 10 2017 – July 22 2018

  • Feel free to have interviews on-campus or onsite. We have interview rooms available at our office for your PEY/ESIP interviews and can assist in making interview schedules, compiling resumes, etc.

Hire Interns

Offer Period: October 2017 – August 3 2018

  • Please send the offer letter/employment contract directly to the student, and a copy to your Program Coordinator. Contracts need to follow duration, start and end date guidelines (PEY= 12-16 months, ESIP 4 months in summer)
  • There is an internship placement fee ($975) students pay to be in the program. Some employers reimburse their students as a hiring incentive.
  • Please refer to last year’s salary statistics for average pay rates.

Sign Documents

  • Please send the offer letter/employment contract directly to the student, and a copy to your Program Coordinator. Contracts need to follow duration, start and end date guidelines (PEY= 12-16 months, ESIP 4 months in summer)
  • During their internship, students are required to submit evaluations and reports to fulfill the program requirements. If your organization has their own evaluation forms, these will be accepted in place of the programs’ templates below. The student’s supervisor/manager is also required to complete sections within the evaluation and report.

It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of when these items are due and submit them online.

PEY

Midterm Evaluation

  • Deadline: 4 months into the internship (September – December 2018, depending on start date)

Final Evaluation

  • Deadline: August 1, 2018

Final Paper

  • Deadline: August 1, 2018
ESIP

Final Evaluation

Reflection Paper

Receive Ontario Co-operative Education Tax Credit Letters

  • The PEY and eSIP program are government-recognized co-operative education programs. Employers in Ontario who hire students through PEY or eSIP may be eligible for the co-operative education tax credit worth up to $3,000 in incentives. Check Canada Revenue Agency’s Co-operative Education Tax Credit for details.
  • Our office will reach out to our employer contacts with tax credit letters for registered PEY 2017-2018 internship students. Employers hiring students from the 2017 ESIP program will receive tax credit letters by September 2017.
