Preparation for your Work Term

International Students

ESIP
  1. Study Permit
    • You need to make sure your study permit is valid during your internship (May 2018- August 2018). Please visit CIE for details about Study Permit extensions (scroll down to the middle of the webpage).

  2. Co-op Work Permit
    • Processing your co-op work permit may take a couple of months, so be sure to start as soon as you can! It is crucial to have your co-op work permit finalized before your work term starts.
    • Firstly, pick-up your confirmation letter from our office. You will receive an email once they are printed and ready.
    • Secondly, visit CIE for the other documents you need to prepare and next steps. They will be your first point of contact to prepare your co-op work permit.

Accepting an Offer

  2. Employment Contract/Offer Letter
    • To supplement your acceptance form, submit a copy of your employment contract.
    • Submit: via Career Portal
      • Login to the Career Portal
      • Click the “Upload a Document” blue button
      • Include your Full Name
      • Make sure the file type is “Employer Contract”

Work term requirements are as follows:

  • Paid continuous position with no split work terms
  • The work term must be 12-16 months (PEY Co-op) or 4 months (ESIP)

 Independent Work Terms for PEY Co-op or ESIP

You may obtain an independent PEY Co-op or ESIP position outside of the Career Portal. For the position to be registered in the programs, it must be reviewed and approved. If the work term is approved, you will be required to pay the PEY Co-op/ESIP fee + applicable incidental fees with no exception.

For the review and approval process, email the following documents to Chioma Ekpo, Assistant Director, PEY Co-op Engineering Career Centre, chioma@ecf.utoronto.ca:

  • Job description
  • Signed copy of the offer/contract with both student and employer signature, start and end date and salary rate
  • PEY Acceptance Form or ESIP Acceptance Form
  • Name, title, email address, phone number and work address of the contact person/supervisor in the organization

You will be required to submit evaluations and papers during your time on PEY Co-op or ESIP.

  1. Midterm Evaluation
    • Download the midterm evaluation here
    • Deadline: 4 months into your position (September – December, depending on your start date)
    • Submit: via Career Portal
      • Login to the Career Portal
      • Click the “Upload a Document” blue button
      • Include your Full Name
      • Make sure the file type is “Midterm Evaluation”
  2. Final Evaluation
    • Download the final evaluation here
    • Deadline: TBD
    • Submit via Blackboard
  3. Final Paper
    • Deadline: TBD
    • Submit via Blackboard
      • Document file + instructions will be provided in an email closer to deadline
