The PEY Co-op intern who tried to solve the market

Presenter: Vincent Racine

A common belief amongst incoming PEY Co-op students; is the company’s name and reputation is the only thing that matters. In my workshop, I will offer an alternative view and outline the benefits of doing my PEY Co-op at a relatively small but growing investment firm. I will discuss how during my PEY Co-op, I worked with a small group of like-minded individuals to try to solve the market. I will elaborate on tools and techniques I used notably: natural language processing to extract information from earnings calls and state-of-the-art optimization techniques to create a portfolio that will outperform the market. Finally, I will also point out that working at a small company allows you to build strong bonds with your coworkers and regularly interact with senior executives. Time permitting, I will finish by discussing the hiring process and give tips and trips that I found handy in my PEY Co-op job search
