The Engineering Career Centre is designed to provide a comprehensive, student-centered experience for all participants in the Professional Experience Year Co-op Program (PEY Co-op). We are committed to ensuring students, employers, and alumni have the resources they need to succeed throughout the co-op journey.

  • On-the-Job Support: If you face challenges during your placement, our co-op coordinators are available to provide guidance and help resolve any concerns.
  • Networking Events: Meet industry leaders, alumni, and employers during our exclusive events tailored to PEY Co-op students.

Peer Coaches

Who are Peer Coaches?

Peer Coaches are upper-year students returning from their own PEY Co-op work terms. They are here to help you navigate the PEY Co-op Program, refer you to useful resources, and share their academic and work term experiences with you.

How do Peer Coaches help students?

Are you a first-year student who’s curious about how to start gaining professional work experience? Are you in the recruitment cycle and want to learn from someone who’s recently completed their 12-16 month work term? Perhaps you’re currently on work term and are feeling overwhelmed by the transition and just need someone to talk to who’s been through it all before.

Our Peer Coaches are ready and waiting to meet you! Connect with your Peer Coaches through:

  • 1:1 appointments to discuss all things related to PEY Co-op
  • On-campus events, such as Pop-Up with Peers, Pizza with Peers, and at other ECC-hosted workshops
  • Social media, such as @uoftecc’s Instagram account – they frequently host IG Takeovers!

How can I become a Peer Coach?

Peer Coaches are hired through the University of Toronto's Work Study Program. If you are a student returning from your 12-16 Month Work Term and are interested in giving back to your Skule community, keep an eye out for a recruitment email from the ECC over the summer with more details!

If you have questions about what's involved in becoming a Peer Coach, email us at sd.ecc@utoronto.ca and we'll connect you to the right person on staff.

Alumni Ambassadors

Who are Alumni Ambassadors?

Alumni Ambassadors are volunteers of the PEY Co-op Program who have completed their work terms and transitioned to professional roles in industry. They continue to stay involved with the Skule community by sharing their stories through the Preparatory Program and at events, mentoring current students through informational interviews, and staying connected.

By speaking at events, joining panels, or contributing to alumni spotlights, Alumni Ambassadors can inspire the future generation of engineers. They offer valuable advice on navigating the ins and outs of PEY Co-op and leveraging those experiences to build successful careers in industry. Additionally, joining the network of PEY Co-op Alumni Ambassadors helps them maintain connections with peers and expand their professional circles.
