Employer Funding Opportunities
Please contact our office at employers.ecc@utoronto.ca if you have any additional questions.
The Summer Co-op and PEY Co-op programs are government recognized co-operative education programs. Employers in Ontario who hire students through Summer Co-op and PEY Co-op may be eligible for the co-operative education tax credit worth up to $3,000 every 4 months in incentives.
Our office will reach out to our employer contacts with tax credit letters for registered Summer Co-op and PEY Co-op students.
The Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) supports the hiring of post-secondary students by providing wage subsidies to employers that offer quality work integrated learning opportunities. Qualifying employers may be eligible to offset 50%-70% of student wages up to a maximum of $7,000 for each eligible student.
Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. This funding is designed to create summer jobs for young people aged 15 to 30 who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.
Student Work Placement Program (SWPP)
The Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) brings employers, service providers, industry associations and post-secondary institutions together to create new work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities for post-secondary students.
The Student Work Placement Program gives post-secondary students in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) and business programs across Canada paid work experience related to their field of study.
Funded in part by the Government of Canada the SWPP program provides employers with wage subsidies of up to 50% of the wage cost for the work term (to a maximum of $5,000 per student) and up to 70% (to a maximum of $7,000 per student) for under-represented students, including:
- Women in STEM
- Persons with disabilities
- Newcomers
- Indigenous students
- Visible minorities
- First-year students
- SWPP funding cannot be used in combination with any other Federal Government funding
- SWPP funding is not open to international student hires
- SWPP funding is geared for net-new WIL opportunities (e.g. opportunities that wouldn’t exist without this funding)
11 recognized industry associations that represent the interests of businesses in key sectors in STEM and business, are responsible for establishing partnerships with employers to provide the wage subsidies for quality student work placements.
